Arthur Au

Veggie Family

Arthur had been working in the professional accounting field for more than 7 years, including working in one of the Big Four accounting firms, when the birth of his daughter motivated him to resign from his position and set off to realize his childhood dream of opening a vegetarian restaurant.
Born to a Buddhist family, Arthur grew up watching his great-grandmother eating tofu, bean curd skin and other vegetarian dishes. He himself has been a vegetarian for many years, and heavily influenced by his great-grandmother, decided from an early age onwards that he would open a vegetarian restaurant after he retired.
Fast forward to over a decade later, as Arthur held his newborn daughter in his arms he came to the realization that he wanted to be a good role model to inspire his daughter to chase after her dreams. That meant he first had to live out his own dream, and so in 2014 he took ownership of the vegetarian restaurant Veggie Family (素食一家).
Arthur started out full of ideas for his restaurant, but unfortunately Veggie Family re-opened its doors at a time when business was slow. However Arthur never gave up – instead, he worked hard to come up with ways to attract customers to the restaurant, including hiring a chef with more than 20 years’ experience in vegetarian restaurants, and adding his new ideas to the mix to create new, fusion tastes for customers of all ages.
His dedication and perseverance have paid off, and Arthur continues to advance his dreams of being a role model for his daughter and promoting the benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle to all who visit his restaurant. Now, he is busy preparing for the opening of another vegetarian restaurant—of which he is one of the founders—in Kowloon East.
