Craig Yu

Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science

University of Massachusetts Boston

An Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Massachusetts Boston, Craig conducts research on functionality modeling, reasoning and visual computing. He is currently working on the topics of 3D content creation and visual computing, and his research has won him numerous awards such as the 2014 Cisco Outstanding Graduate Research Award by the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

While Craig was a PhD student at UCLA, he participated in joint post-doctoral studies between HKUST and UCLA pioneered by fellow HKUST alumnus Sai-Kit Yeung, with Professor Tony F. Chan, President of HKUST, acting as a research advisor. This collaboration resulted in "Make It Home", an innovative software interior design program that helps people come up with ideas on how to best arrange their furniture. The software has been featured in the international magazine New Scientist as well as local media, and was accepted into the highly competitive SIGGRAPH Computer Graphics Conference in Vancouver, Canada, in 2011.

Despite living so far away, Craig continues to support his alma mater in various ways. He participated in the HKUST Alumni Relocation Program and helped organize alumni events locally while he was living in Los Angeles. Now based in Boston, he is the alumni contact for fellow HKUST'ers living in the region, help them stay connected with each other and with HKUST.
