Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management
Upon graduation, Emily already knew that she wanted to work in an industry that she liked and that was closely related to her studies; and teach. Currently she is fulfilling her teaching ambitions as a lecturer in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management at HKUST, after working at Honeywell Integrated Technology (Shanghai) for some years. Her research interests include user research, comfort and fit research, psychophysical modeling, and application of User-Centered Design (UCD) techniques to product innovation and development.
Her enthusiasm for teaching became more evident as she won two Teaching Assistant Excellence Awards while studying for her PhD. Encouraged by Professor Ravindra Goonetilleke, Emily finally returned to HKUST and took up the teaching position.
Dr Au had the time of her life at HKUST. To her, life is a drama and while busy working on her PhD she also fulfilled her creative side as one of the founders of the Drama Society. She advises students to do the same and take up activities that will round out their experiences.
